One of our Santa Rosa CityBus routes is a shuttle service in the Oakmont neighborhood of Santa Rosa. The service is subsidized by the residents of Oakmont and provides a daily trip to a local shopping center, then spends the rest of the day making loops throughout Oakmont to connect the residents to the community services offered in Oakmont.
Last month we received the following letter. (I’ve retyped it here so that it would be easier to read.)

Dear Sir:
My wife and I recently took my 96 year old mother on the Oakmont Route #16 bus. We wanted to introduce her to using the bus to do some of her shopping and thus boarded the bus as it heads from Oakmont to St. Francis area’s Safeway. Initially, she was very reluctant to use the bus.
When the bus stopped to pick us up we were greeted with a big smile and a friendly “good morning.” Mark, the bus driver, is a “jewel”. We noticed that he helped all his passengers in and out of the bus, checked to see if they needed help carrying their groceries, knew everyone by name and checked to see that all were accounted for before heading back to Oakmont from Safeway.
My mother was delighted to see many of her friends on the bus and was welcomed into the friendly group. All her insecurities vanished when she saw her friends and how Mark attended all of them. He is an extremely caring individual and deserves lots of credit for the effort he expends watching and caring for his passengers.

We are very proud of our drivers as they are an integral part of all the work we do to make our service of value to our community. As you can imagine, there is a lot of hard work and planning that goes into providing a City’s public transit service. Without a doubt one of the key components is our drivers. When we hear from our riders how our drivers have gone above and beyond to provide exceptional customer service to make them feel safe and appreciated, well that truly is the icing on the cake!
So, here’s to Mark! Thanks for doing such a great job for the Oakmont residents! All of us really appreciate it!

Well alot of bus drivers in general go out of there way to help people,so it would be really hard to single out just one of them.Thank you especially to all my bus driver friends and they know who they are for making riding city bus a fun experiance.I love you guys.
And some of the bus drivers are in a bad mood every once awhile.
